Jeep Van Wormer Settles for Runner-Up at Berlin; Rain-Postponed World 100 Next

(PINCONNING, MICHIGAN) Jeep Van Wormer and his Iron Motorsports team were in the pit area at Berlin Raceway in Marne, Michigan for the third straight weekend on Saturday, September 29 seeking a third straight trip to victory lane at the dirt-covered speedplant. Jeep knocked down the fastest time in his group during the American Ethanol Late Model Tour (AELMT) qualifying session before moving up one position in his heat race to finish third. The Pinconning, Michigan ace then drew the fourth starting spot for the 50-lap main event and had his sole focus set on the $6,000 winner's check.

Jeep hounded early leader Mike Spatola III and eventually grabbed the point from him on the sixteenth circuit. He then dominated most of the remainder of the rain-plagued race, as he led by seven seconds at one point late in the distance. However, with heavy rain falling and a restart with only three laps remaining, Jeep unfortunately hit some slime and went into a heavy push, which allowed Rich Bell to get a run on the cushion and take away the top spot. At the checkers, Jeep was forced to settle for a disappointing runner-up performance at the 7/16-mile facility, as he trailed only winner Bell. The #55 team, who will take the upcoming October 5-6 weekend off, will now prepare to make a return trip to the hallowed high-banks of Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio on October 12-13 for the remainder of the 48th edition of the fabled 'World 100.' Jeep narrowly missed out on advancing into his Twin 25 back on Thursday, September 6 before inclement weather postponed the final two nights of racing action at the "Big E." Things will pick up right where they left off on Friday, October 12 with a pair of Twin 25s - each of which will boast a $10,000 payday. Combined points from the two prelim nights will set the lineup for Saturday's traditional six heat races.

Following the heat races on Saturday, October 13 at the 1/2-mile speedplant, two consolation races will finalize the starting field for the 48th Annual 'World 100.' A huge crowd is expected to file into Eldora Speedway to witness the 100-lap crown jewel spectacular, which is set to pay a hefty $51,000 to the winner. Jeep has transferred into ten 'World 100' headliners throughout his career with his best finish of third coming back in both 2006 and 2008.
