Jeep Van Wormer Wins for First Time in 2021; Flexes Muscles Against Summer Nationals Foes!

Jeep Van Wormer and his Iron Motorsports team celebrated in victory lane for the first time in 2021 last Friday night, July 16 at the nearby Tri-City Motor Speedway in Auburn, Michigan! When the DIRTcar Summer Nationals show at Hartford (MI) Speedway was washed out early in the day, the #55 team headed to Tri-City instead and Jeep promptly passed three competitors in his heat race to finish second. After rolling off from the pole position in the weekly Super Late Model main event, Jeep led each and every circuit to pocket the $1,600 top prize ahead of Derrick Hilliker, Andrew Terrill, Colin Shipley, and Greg Gokey! In other action last weekend, Jeep battled the "Hell Tour" regulars at both Thunderbird Raceway in Muskegon, Michigan and Oakshade Raceway in Wauseon, Ohio. On Thursday night in a $5,000 to win throwdown at Thunderbird, Jeep timed in fourth fastest in Group B during qualifying, won his heat race, and later drove to a stellar fourth place performance in the caution-free A-Main to finish behind only victor Ashton Winger, Bobby Pierce, and Tanner English.

At Oakshade on Saturday evening in the annual 'Birthday Race,' which boasted a $10,000 payday and drew a whopping 53 competitors, the Pinconning, Michigan ace laid down the second quickest lap in Group A during time trials before securing another heat race triumph. Jeep then led laps 10-21 of the headliner before winding up fifth at the checkers in the 50-lapper behind only race winner Ashton Winger, Bobby Pierce, Tanner English, and Rusty Schlenk. "We had an up-and-down start to our year and everyone was really down after getting caught up in a couple of wrecks at Eldora during the Dirt Late Model Dream, but I'm proud of all of my guys for working hard and getting us back going," quoted Van Wormer this week. "It feels good to show that kind of speed all three nights against some fast cars and contend for wins again. To get that victory last Friday close to home at Tri-City was huge since you're racing in front of so many friends and family members. Then at Oakshade on Saturday, we won the heat and bolted right out there to the lead, but I knew we were in trouble with our tire selection. Hopefully, these strong runs will boost everyone's morale and give us a little momentum heading into some big money races in August and September."

The #55 team will take the next couple of weekends off from racing action, but will actively be preparing their equipment for the upcoming 33rd Annual 'Wood Tic' weekend at Merritt Speedway in Lake City, Michigan. The American Late Model Series (ALMS) will preside over the two-day extravaganza on August 6-7, which will culminate on that Saturday with a lucrative feature event that shells out a whopping $33,000 to the winner.
